The Suited Booted Recruited programme, created by SGS College to help people struggling to find work, is now branching out again to help the unemployed enter a specific industry.
The new intensive course named ‘Licence to Skill’ has been developed to support the many local striving business sectors and aims to help contribute to bringing the unemployment rate down.
This course is designed for those wanting to enter a career in Retail, Security, Health and Social Care and Construction. Taking place across Bristol and South Gloucestershire the nine day programmes will give participant the skills, knowledge, qualifications and confidence to go for the job of their dreams.
The SBR department has gone from strength to strength; originally holding courses in Filton, the two week intensive course proved so successful that it was then rolled out in different locations over Bristol and then neighbouring cities including: Stroud, Weston-Super- Mare, Swindon, Bath and Trowbridge.
Since the launch of the first employability course, in October 2011, the programme has supported and helped over 4000 learners achieve a number of free qualifications in Employability Skills, Customer Service and First Aid.
Due to popular demand, SGS College launched the progression course in January 2013. Hired and Inspired further increased the skill set of learners, enabling them to acquire higher level qualifications and additional skills for the world of work.
In 2012-2013 the department successfully saw over 62% of learners enter into further education or employment and. More recently SBR were runners-up in the Association of College’s Innovation in Further Education Beacon award, sponsored by OCR. The award itself is given to a college which can demonstrate the most successful initiative which transforms the capability of learners to successfully achieve their individual aims, gain qualifications and/or progress to employment or education. It is not easy to get shortlisted with many colleges competing for this prestigious award.
Associate Dean, Kelly Gillett, commented: “We are really excited to offer these new sector based courses to continue to help support people back into work.”
